A beautiful evergreen sedge forming graceful, arching clumps of fine foliage in warm shades of olive green, copper, and bronze. Its flowing habit and year-round colour make it an excellent choice for adding texture, softness, and movement to borders, containers, and naturalistic planting schemes.
Plant Details:
• Common name: New Zealand hair sedge
• Position: Full sun to partial shade
• Height & spread: Approx. 40–50cm x 40–50cm
• Flowering: June – August (small, inconspicuous flowers)
• Soil: Moist but well-drained soil; tolerates poorer soils once established
• Hardiness: Hardy in Ireland (may benefit from shelter in exposed, very wet sites)
• Pollinator friendly: ✘ No (wind-pollinated)
• Something to note: A highly valued evergreen grass-like plant for its foliage rather than flowers. It provides excellent year-round structure and looks particularly effective planted alongside silver foliage, purple flowers, or other ornamental grasses. Remove old or damaged leaves in spring to refresh the clump
